Mix up your workout with our $30 reformer classes! In our small group reformer classes you’ll get a full body workout with our Pilates reformers. Experience a workout that challenges you like no other- similar principles to our barre and Pilates mat classes with the ability to add weight and resistance on top of your own bodyweight. I have been so excited to share with you my experience doing acupuncture and cupping therapy with Chris Goddin at Balance ATX.
Chris reached out about trying out a treatment and I was more than willing! I have heart about acupuncture before but never tried it. Now I can’t believe I waited so long! Here’s how it went:
Before going into the appointment, I filled out a long intake form about what was going on with my body. A lot of people do these kinds of therapies for specific ailments, but I was going in just to feel good. I had also read on their website that dry needling (acupuncture) can improve sports performance by “removing muscular inhibition and soft tissue adherence”. We are selling our lightly used spin bikes plus an exclusive class package for at home use. DS will produce 50 spin classes that you may access via our Video On Demand. For $1,500 you will receive:

In-Studio Safety Protocols
- Doors will open 10 minutes before class
- *We will continue to enforce mask wearing until further notice* Wear your face mask the entire time you are in studio.
- Tell the front desk staff your name and they will manually check you in.
- Immediately use hand sanitizer or wash hands upon entrance. There will be hand sanitizer at the front desk and stationed throughout the studio.
- Please only bring minimal items like keys and wallet to class and take shoes off at the entrance of the studio classroom. We will have small plastic bags to contain your items and take to your preset station. We will not be congregating in the change room and lobby.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: A fun fact about me is that I grew up just blocks away from Dancers Shape! I was born and raised in Austin and started taking Dancers Shape classes when I was in high school, almost 10 years ago! I studied dance at the McCallum Fine Arts Academy and lived here until I went to college at the University of Georgia. While living in Georgia I commuted to Nashville, Tennessee for my first yoga teacher training. I am a certified 200-hour registered yoga teacher with The Yoga Alliance. I currently teach power, vinyasa, and yin yoga and am in the process of earning my 300-hour yoga teacher certification. I am so excited to go through the Dancers Shape training and deepen my understanding of all the modalities taught at Dancers Shape. My continued yoga education along with dance background, experience as a medical assistant and 4 years of tutoring Anatomy & Physiology college courses have given me a strong understanding of how the body moves and works. Bikini Bootcamp is back and runs March 11th - May 27th!
Dancers Shape's famous Bikini Bootcamp will get you toned and sculpted just in time for bathing suit season.
This 45 minute specialty class will be held on on Wednesday nights at 5:45 pm for the next 12 weeks. This class will incorporate plenty of power moves to help counteract calories - plus we will focus on chiseling trouble spots so that you feel summer ready!
Round 1: Weeks 3/11 - 4/8 - 5/6 - Bootylicious Butt - This week is all about the derriere. We will be lifting the seat and trimming the outer hips so you don’t have to keep the sarong on as your security blanket.

A fun fact about me is that there are eight kids in my family! Being from a big family, I'm pretty adaptable and enjoy meeting people where they are at, whether in class or in everyday life.
2) What do you enjoy most about teaching?
I know how exciting it is to walk away from a class feeling like I've accomplished something and have taken one more step to a healthy lifestyle. As a teacher, I enjoy the honor of creating a safe, fun, and effective environment for clients to experience the same thing.

Dancers Shape's Client Margaret
Six years ago this month I took my first Dancers Shape Graceful class, and it changed my life. I know it sounds dramatic, but that first class was my first real workout after the birth of my son. I was out of shape, tired, and less connected with myself and my body than I had ever been. After 60 minutes with Emily, in a class I almost couldn’t complete, I felt I had found a place where I could regain my strength. And I did.
The accountability and community at the studio has helped me get into the best shape of my life. I feel better now than I did in my twenties when I was running marathons. I trust Jen and the whole DS team, and know when I come in, no matter which class I’m taking, I am going to get a great workout. Lisa Kobdish was the second instructor that owner Jennifer McCamish hired at Dancers Shape after opening in 2010. Lisa has worked on and off with the studio over the past 9 years while pursuing her professional dance career.
1) Lisa, tell us what you have been working on outside the studio.
Outside the studio I dance with Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Co, a professional modern dance company who presents concert dance work each season, and am an administrative organizer for Austin Dance Festival. I am also a company member with Blue Lapis Light and find myself dancing off the sides of buildings more frequently. I'm also an avid city cyclist and carry myself to and from work with my legs mostly :)

This summer salad and simple salmon is the perfect easy summer dinner on those nights when it’s too hot to cook. And the best part is you can use the same basic recipe and change it up with different ingredients and flavors so even though it’s basically the same meal, it tastes totally different.

After a very decadent Easter weekend chock full of cocktails, sugar, and salty treats, I can’t believe how quickly my beach vacation has snuck up on me at the end of May. Not only am I bloated around my midsection, but I am also having flare ups with my eczema and stomach woes. None of the above makes me pumped to bare my skin.
While I have a much easier time managing my fitness schedule (if I don’t move my body hurts and I feel like a million bucks after a DS class so the incentive is immediate), my struggles lie with my food choices and portion control. My favorite thing to do is grab dinner, drinks, dessert and spend time with friends and family. I mentioned this before in my Lift & Tone blog, but it warrants a second note - things feel and look different at 45 so I know I have to adjust my habits. What drew you to nutrition and health coaching? How did you make your way to DS?
As long as I can remember I’ve always been interested in nutrition and food. In college I even had a hard time deciding which route to go and ultimately I chose writing over science and math, which have never been my strong suits. Then after college, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and it drew me back to nutrition with a totally different perspective.
That’s when I started learning about the body’s ability to heal and I was fascinated and also sorta blown away at how I’d never heard food talked about this way. It wasn’t long after that I was on a flight to New York to visit a friend and I sat next to a girl reading a nutrition text book. I asked about it and she told me about the school that 6 months later I went on to attend.

Introducing our Yoga Workshop Series!
Through the course of a single Vinyasa Yoga class, we put our bodies into positions and fluidly flow through the shapes. The teacher does their best to cue and assist you into your best form of each pose, but occasionally, subtle key actions can be missed. We also get questions from students about how they can achieve the bigger poses. And while we can answer this after class, it often takes more guidance, explanation, and experience in your own body to discover your potential in “big” poses. This is the inspiration for this workshop series.
In each session, we will take familiar poses and learn new ways to approach and even advance them. We will work with props and dig deep into the subtle actions of the body, some of which your body may be familiar with from barre & pilates! A: The most popular item on our menu is definitely the Taco Trio. The trio consists of our three OG tacos, Bahn Mi, BBQ Brisket and Crunchy Fish. We started out as a food truck back in 2010 and with Austin's love for tacos these three have stuck with us as our most popular item since.

Q: What is your favorite service you offer and why?
A: I would have to say my deep tissue massage is what I specialize in, so I tend to favor it more. I love this service because I understand what it means to have chronic pain or just have those knots that are continuously nagging at you, and I find with my deep tissue work I am able to work and provide some relief of those pesky knots while also providing some much needed relaxation for my clients.more
In honor of everyone’s hard work during the 2019 Reset & Rebalance (R&R) Challenge, we wanted to share and highlight a few of our client’s results. See how these women (at all different ages and stages of life) added in strength, cardio, and mindfulness and felt and saw the changes in their mind and body!
Congratulations! You made it to week 4 of the R&R Challenge. I hope each of you are feeling stronger and more balanced each day. Our last step in this challenge is to arm you with the tools necessary to stay committed to your re-balanced life. Let’s get started!
1) Aim to attend 3 - 4 classes per week. If you get more in awesome! If you get less, don’t sweat it. You have built up a solid base that will allow you the flexibility to miss more some weeks and less on other weeks depending on your schedule.
2) Try to keep the variety with strength, cardio, and mindfulness to mix things up so your body and mind do not plateau. This will also help prevent injuries by avoiding overuse of the same muscles and movements. Each week choose 1 - 2 classes from the 3 categories below. If you can get more than 1 in each category that is a bonus! But again, don’t sweat it if you do 3 of the same types of exercise for the entire week without mixing it up - the goal is simply to stay...more
