Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: A fun fact about me is that I grew up just blocks away from Dancers Shape! I was born and raised in Austin and started taking Dancers Shape classes when I was in high school, almost 10 years ago! I studied dance at the McCallum Fine Arts Academy and lived here until I went to college at the University of Georgia. While living in Georgia I commuted to Nashville, Tennessee for my first yoga teacher training. I am a certified 200-hour registered yoga teacher with The Yoga Alliance. I currently teach power, vinyasa, and yin yoga and am in the process of earning my 300-hour yoga teacher certification. I am so excited to go through the Dancers Shape training and deepen my understanding of all the modalities taught at Dancers Shape. My continued yoga education along with dance background, experience as a medical assistant and 4 years of tutoring Anatomy & Physiology college courses have given me a strong understanding of how the body moves and works. I am passionate about learning AND teaching others how to move their bodies in a way that is effective and sustainable.
Q: What do you enjoy most about teaching?
A: My intention in all of my classes is to empower others through safe, enjoyable movement. I love connecting people to their bodies and reminding students (and myself!) that fitness is more than just a chore or checklist item. I particularly enjoy making yoga accessible to every body and demonstrating how yoga can be a tool for building resilience and cultivating love of ones self. The thing I enjoy most about teaching is spreading the idea that exercise and building strength is fun and exciting!
Q: What are you most looking forward to with joining the DS Team in 2020?
A: I am looking forward to learning new movement modalities! I have experienced the effectiveness of the Dancers Shape method and I am so excited to deepen my understanding and be able to share that with others. I am honored to be a part of such talented and highly skilled team and I am looking forward to learning from all of the DS instructors and be a part of an authentic, supportive fitness team. I am excited to grow as a teacher and connect even more to the Austin fitness community!
