Client Success Story: Reversing Osteopenia

Several years ago, I was diagnosed with hormone positive breast cancer. As a part of the ongoing endocrine therapy used to prevent recurrence, one of the unfortunate side effects was a reduction of bone mass. A DEXA scan showed osteopenia in my hips, and I knew I needed to take action to prevent it from progressing into osteoporosis. I was told I would need zoledronic acid infusions twice a year for the next 5 years, which was not ideal for me.

I had read that strength training could help, and after talking with Jennifer about it, I decided to commit to a pilates reformer workout to get to better bone health. I went to the Sculpt reformer classes three times a week, working up to a heavier spring load, Jennifer incorporated heavy weights into our workouts, and I would drop into a barre class when I could for an additional challenge - staying consistent for a full two years.

When I recently went in for my follow up DEXA scan, the results showed an increase in bone mineral density and I was no longer osteopenic. The nurse reading my results was genuinely impressed and told me that I would no longer need the twice a year infusions! I was back to normal!

I truly believe working with Jennifer and the other instructors (Kyrie, Corrie, Kelsey and Brady) is what got me here. Shape Method was instrumental in helping me rebuild my bone density and my overall health after cancer. I feel so strong! I am grateful for their guidance and their expertise as well as their willingness to customize workouts to help me.
