Shape Method Carissa Topham

Carissa Fisher

Instructor

Carissa is an Austin native and received her BFA in dance from the University of North Texas. She was named “Outstanding Senior” and “Best Choreographer” in her graduating class. During her time in school she participated in residencies and master classes with major dance companies and choreographers from around the U.S., including Bebe Miller and Ailey II to name a few. Carissa is currently enjoying her sixth season performing with the Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Company.

Through her studies in anatomy and dance kinesiology at college, Carissa developed a deep interest for fitness and the rehabilitative bodywork of Pilates, yoga and the Feldenkrais technique. While training in these methods, she experienced first hand the benefits of Pilates and building proper core engagement and joint strength to protect from injuries. As she improved her own biomechanics, she began to notice body improvements like ease of control during performances as well as old running pains beginning to dissipate. Upon her first visit to Shape Method, her experience was like most – the shake and burn was intense, but she loved the athleticism mixed with fluidity built into a solid foundation of joint and spine safety.

Carissa is a Stott Pilates certified instructor, and has a pre and post natal certification as well as experience working with special populations. “I am honored to be part of the Shape Method team and thrilled to be pursuing my passions for fitness and dance in my local town.”
