Welcome Angela!
Dancers Shape
DS: Where are you from?
AS: My family is from the midwest, but relocated to San Antonio when I was three. So, I am really a Texas girl. It always amused my grandparents, aunts, and uncles when little Angela busted out the 'ya'll' expression on visits home. After attending Texas State University in San Marcos, I finally migrated to the Austin area in 2004, having had my sites on this wonderful city with it's endless social and outdoor outlets ... and awesome people!
DS: What do you like to do for fun?
AS: Well, dance is one of my greatest loves, as well as spending time with family and friends. I have a new little nephew who I absolutely adore and my husband and I enjoy traveling the world together and exploring the hill country on his Harley.
I also make many of my own belly dance costumes and enjoy baking and cooking when I can fit them into my schedule. Discovering delicious healthy, gluten-free, low sugar desserts (especially if they recall dark chocolate) are my favorites. If you know of any, send them my way!
DS: What is your fitness background?
AS: I have been dancing since my mother introduced me to dance classes as a little girl. I minored in dance at Texas State University, studying the Erick Hawkins style of modern dance. My mother also danced in her college days, so I guess you could say it runs in the family! I discovered belly dancing in 1996 and have been teaching and performing since 1998.
Yoga also sparked my interest, at first as a new work out to try. After seeing not only the physical benefits, but experiencing the mental, emotional, and spiritual rewards as well, I decided to deepen my studies and acquire a yoga teaching certification. I have been teaching yoga since 2012.
Additionally, I am ACE Group Fitness Certified and now happily an official Barre Instructor here at Dancers Shape!
DS: What drew you to Dancers Shape?
AS: Yoga, barre, and dance (in my humble opinion) make a beautiful and well-rounded work out regimen, and Dancers Shape has a fantastic offering of classes in a unique style. I was drawn to the skilled instruction, wonderful energy of the studio and staff, and the sense of community. With my dance and fitness background, it felt like a perfect fit!
