Lisa was born and raised in Austin! She studied and created dance here at The University of Texas, and later received an M.A. in Dance Performance from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. After studying abroad and then living in NYC for several years to pursue experiences in the dance industry, she is back in her hometown making work and art. She dances with Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Company, organizes for Austin Dance Festival, curates ADF's "Dance on Film" screenings, performs with Blue Lapis Light as an aerialist, and frequently develops work of her own as well.
Beginning her love for physical activity as a young gymnast, Lisa's body training has extended beyond classical and modern dance, and gathers inspiration from alternative movement training in aerial silks, capoeira, Butoh and parkour. Her undergraduate and graduate studies instilled in her the fundamentals of Alexander technique, Bartenieff and Feldenkrais among other somatic techniques, teaching her to internalize her movement with a heightened focus on anatomy and health. In more recent years, Lisa has trained to acquire a Pilates teacher certification from Peak Pilates© and has experience teaching both mat and reformer Pilates. Lisa also has a Hatha Yoga Teacher Certification from Yoga Vidya Gurukul in Nashik, India, where she spent a month training and living on an ashram to experience a traditional yogic lifestyle.
Lisa originally completed her Dancers Shape Instructor Training in 2010 and has worked as a DS instructor in between pursuing her educational and performance goals. “I am humbled by the knowledge and professionalism of my co-workers at Dancers Shape and am honored to be a part of this unique team of women. As an instructor, it is exciting to be part of a community that encourages one another to practice fitness and sustain healthy habits, in a fun way!”
