Welcome Barrett & Rachel- Our Newest Instructors
Dancers Shape
About Barrett:
Barrett has recently completed her B.S. in Public Health from Appalachian State University in North Carolina. She moved to Austin in July of 2014 to pursue a career in corporate wellness with Apple Inc. Barrett began her ballet training at the age of four with the Raleigh School of Ballet. At thirteen she expanded her training to tap, jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary with the North Carolina Dance Institute. As a freshman in college she began teaching dance fitness classes with her school’s university recreation department. After extensive observation and training plus an injury based Athletic Conditioning course, she gradually moved to other fitness formats. To date she has taught H.I.I.T, kickboxing, hip-hop abs, cycle, step aerobics, barre, and various forms of weight training classes. Barrett loves the energy that comes with group fitness classes, as well as watching participants progress safely and effectively. She has experience working with clients of all ages and physical backgrounds.
In February 2014 she taught a master class at the Southeast Collegiate Fitness Expo in Virginia to over 200 group fitness instructors. Barrett has her primary group fitness certification with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). Her favorite aspect of Dancer’s Shape is their promotion of body awareness, biomechanics, and safety through proper form. She is excited to combine her love for dance and fitness with Dancers Shape!

There, she had the privilege of working with such choreographers as Alonzo King, Gregory Dawson, Amanda Miller and Maurya Kerr. During her two years at LINES, she studied anatomy and physiology through many disciplines, including Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonic, yoga, Pilates and Alexander Technique. Since completing her traineeship, Rachel has performed with Dawson Wallace Dance Project in Denver and Contemporary Ballet Dallas. Rachel currently performs with Avant Chamber Ballet and other projects as a freelance dancer.
During her time at UT, Rachel began practicing yoga to support the flexibility and strength required for ballet. In addition to teaching at Dancers Shape, Rachel teaches ballet, choreographs and conducts workshops teaching high school students how to write about dance and performance. Eager to discover new ways to supplement her dancing and overall health, she has adopted an interdisciplinary approach to fitness and is excited to have completed the Dancers Shape training program and share and grow as a member of the Dancers Shape team.
